Cisco CIUS means business

Cisco Systems joins the tablet race with style and attitude. By creating a tablet meant only for the business class, Cisco has redefined the tablet market with this one of kind business device.

Cisco Systems introduced ‘CIUS’, a new edition to the tablet market, which can be paralleled with Apple’s iPad but that would be an understatement because the ‘CIUS’ is so much more. CIUS is not like any other tablet; it is a virtual desktop and telecommunication machine designed specifically for corporate use – you may call it the Blackberry of tablets. The features of the ‘CIUS’ include videoconferencing capabilities, a touch screen tablet that can function as a PC and an Android operating system.

According to Cisco this will “help your employees stay connected to their work, increase productivity, and reduce costs. The innovative Cisco CIUS is an ultra-portable, mobile collaboration enterprise tablet that offers access to essential business applications and technologies.”

Software Application capabilities include:

Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n), 4G data, and Bluetooth help employees stay connected while mobile

HD video (720p) including interoperability with Cisco TelePresence systems with the EX Series provide lifelike video communications with the simplicity of a phone call

Virtual Experience Infrastructure (VXI) thin-client integration enables highly secure access to cloud-based business applications

Cisco AppHQ delivers access to secure transformative business-process applications

Collaboration applications include Cisco Quad, Jabber IM, and Presence as well as integrated one-click access to WebEx meetings.

Tablet highlights include:

Cisco Compatible Extensions powered wireless communications device, optimized to work with a Cisco Wireless LAN infrastructure

7-inch diagonal, high-resolution color screen with contact-based touch targets for an elegant, intuitive experience

Optional HD media station with USB peripherals, 10/100/1000 wired connectivity, and a handset option

Detachable and serviceable battery for easy recharging

Highly secure remote connections with Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client

HD audio with wideband support (tablet, HD media station)

This multifunctional device does look impressive, with the developers having a clear focus in mind by not making it a device for everyone; it is simply for the corporate man. Having a two way camera alone makes it a worthy device in the eyes of the business class but with all these other great features it surely has a great chance for being a head runner in the market.
